As the European Commission reviews the second half of the EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021–2030, EFHOH has submitted its contribution to the public consultation on its future implementation.
In our submission, we outlined key priorities for hard of hearing people across Europe, including access to employment and reasonable accommodation, accessibility of information, communication and emergency services, affordability and availability of assistive technologies, and freedom of movement within the EU. The contribution also highlights the growing relevance of hearing loss in the society in the context of demographic change and longer working lives.
The consultation remains open until 6 February 2026 (end of day). EFHOH strongly encourages hard of hearing individuals, organisations, and other stakeholders to submit their own responses before the deadline. Broad and diverse participation is essential to ensure that the lived experiences and priorities of people with hearing loss are visible, recognised, and meaningfully reflected in EU disability policy for the years ahead.
Taking part in this consultation is an important opportunity to influence the direction of EU action up to 2030 and to help ensure that hearing accessibility and inclusion of hard of hearing are part of the EU disability policy agenda.
