EFHOH is pleased to announce the launch of AI for Hearing Access, a new project funded by the European Disability Forum (EDF) through its Empowered by AI programme in partnership with Google.

AI offers growing opportunities to improve communication and accessibility for hard of hearing people, from automatic transcription and notetaking to AI-powered meeting assistants. However, these technologies also raise important concerns about accuracy, privacy, bias and reliability.

Running from September 2026 to April 2027, the project aims to strengthen AI literacy and explore how AI technologies can respond to the needs of hard of hearing people.

Through training, knowledge-sharing and practical activities, the project will involve hard of hearing people in exploring the opportunities and challenges of AI technologies in everyday life.

The insights gathered will contribute to the development of guidance on AI for Hearing Access, providing practical recommendations and resources for EFHOH members and the wider hard of hearing community.

Through this initiative, EFHOH aims to ensure that hard of hearing people have a voice in shaping more accessible, inclusive and responsible AI technologies. Stay tuned!
