Welcome The Faroe Island`s hard of hearing organization Hoyr as a general member of EFHOH.

European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH) are warmly welcoming The Faroe Island hard of hearing organization Hoyr as a general member of EFHOH.

We are looking forward to work together with Hoyr`s President Mrs Ása Olsen and her board members.

By now welcoming the Faroe Island as a general member of EFHOH It is a good occasion to also inform about a visit that EFHOHs Office Manager had to the Faroe Island this spring.

European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH) are focused on strengthening the capacity of national member organisations to influence public policies and programmes.
Our long term goal is to protect, promote and raise awareness on rights of persons with disabilities, specifically hard of hearing and deafened people through long term mentoring program, training and support program to strengthen the capacity of national member organisations and realise visibility and increased participation of hard of hearing citizens in all areas of European and national disability and citizens plans.

In a project financed by the Nordic Council we have mentoring and training national organisations in Island and the Faroe Island in cooperation with public authorities in the design and implementation of relevant policies. Together with these Nordic Hard of Hearing organization we have managed by their initiative and network to have meetings at the Minister level of their countries. This is grate and actually good advocacy. The aim of these meetings has been to make all of the Nordic governments agree of:

  • Make a review/mapping:
    • Accessibility for hard of hearing people in all the schools.
    • accessibility challenges such as lack of:
      • induction loops, assistive listening devices and other technical devises for hard of hearing people.
  • Review/mapping the financial consequence to make all the schools Universally designed for hard of hearing people.
  • Make sure that the National Health sector are qualified and have skills to take care communicate and support hard of hearing people.
