EFHOH welcomes the European Commission’s Enhanced Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities up to 2030.
The new flagship initiative on assistive technologies and AI is a particularly positive development, offering an opportunity to address persistent inequalities in access to hearing technologies across Europe.
However, important gaps remain. Hearing loss and hearing accessibility must be better recognised across EU policies so that hard of hearing people can access information, communicate independently and participate equally in society.
EFHOH therefore calls for stronger action to close these gaps, ensure effective implementation of accessibility requirements by Member States and advance a dedicated European Strategy on Hearing Loss. These steps are essential to achieving meaningful and lasting improvements for millions of hard of hearing people across Europe.
